homeward bound

i was lucky enough to have convinced my mom, dad, and mitch to come and visit for a little bit before i return to the states. we spent our first night in managua, where i tried to give them a sneak peak into the history and politics of the country--what i had studied for a few months. headed to granada for a night to experience what a real nicaraguan city is like (compared to its centerless capital). had a nice tour to the masaya market, laguna de apoyo (a lagoon in the crater of a volcano), and a lookout point. spent a few nights in san juan del sur in an eco lodge right near a quiet beach that was great for surfing. everyone tried it out... while i worked on my tan. it looked like good fun. and now we're back in managua getting packed and ready to fly back together. yesterday my families met one another and they saw where our little neighborhood was.

it's been nice seeing them experience some of the things that i've done, and it was wonderful spending time with them. it's been different, staying in fancy hotels and eating like a queen compared to my pocketknife sandwiches and mangey hostels. almost culture shock before i leave the country! but i'm really looking forward to getting home and spending some time with friends before i head to stonehill for the summer. just a few more hours!
