happy easter!

I woke up this morning to some really loud noises sounding like gunshots out on the street. when the drums started playing, I ran to the window to check it out. since my room is on the second floor, all I could see was a plastic statue of Jesus bobbing up and down along with an entire line of people dressed in their nicest clothes. they were parading to the church nearby, shooting firecrackers, shouting Jesus christ the king lives, and expressing their happiness with a loud applause. as most of the country is catholic (and christianity is 
the runner up), Easter is a big deal. nicas celebrate an entire week of the holiday, calling it semana santa. so for the entire or a portion of the week before easter, nearly the entire population floods to the beaches to relax and spend time with family.
